Another Catholic bishop has called Joe Biden to task after he falsely claimed the Catholic Church doesn\u2019t oppose taxpayer-funded abortions.<\/p>\n
Biden lied to a Catholic reporter on Monday and falsely claimed<\/a>\u00a0the nation\u2019s Catholic bishops do not oppose forcing Americans to fund abortions even though the Catholic Church has a longstanding pro-life position against tax-funded abortions.<\/p>\n During questioning about the federal budget, Biden responded to a question from EWTN White House correspondent Owen Jensen. The pro-life reporter could barely get his question out before Biden cut him off:<\/p>\n Q Catholic bishops are demanding that federal tax dollars not fund abortions.<\/p>\n BIDEN: No, they are not all doing that. The Catholic Church has been clear and consistent in this teaching,\u201d Broglio said. \u201cThe Catholic bishops of the United States are united in our commitment to life and will continue to work as one body in Christ to make abortion unthinkable.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cTaxpayer funding of abortion would force people of good conscience to participate in this grave evil against their will,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cIt would contradict our right to live in accord with the tenets of our faith. Our nation is better than that,\u201d he continued. \u201cI pray that we will protect every child no matter his or her age, and open our hearts to respond to mothers in need with love and support rather than the violence of abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n Broglio is the second Catholic bishop to take Biden to task.<\/p>\n Bishop Joseph Strickland of the Catholic Diocese of Tyler, Texas\u00a0condemned Biden\u2019s comments<\/a>\u00a0and said he was engaging in \u201cfake Catholicism.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cMr. Biden can\u2019t be allowed to twist the words of Pope Francis in this way,\u201d Strickland tweeted. \u201cI implore the Vatican press office to emphatically clarify that Pope Francis rightly calls abortion murder. It is time to denounce Biden\u2019s fake Catholicism.\u201d<\/p>\n On Friday, the nation\u2019s Catholic bishops\u00a0released a statement<\/a>\u00a0supporting\u00a0a bill to permanently ban taxpayer funded abortions<\/a>.<\/p>\n Earlier today, Bishop Michael F. Burbidge of Arlington, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops\u2019 (USCCB) Committee on Pro-Life Activities sent a letter to House and Senate sponsors of the \u201cNo Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act\u201d (H.R.7 and S.62), in support of the legislation.<\/p>\n \u201cProtecting taxpayers from being forced to pay for abortion in violation of their conscience is a principle that has enjoyed historically broad support among Americans, regardless of their otherwise passionately divided views on the topic. It has also been life-saving,\u201d said Bishop Burbidge in his letter.
